College Scholarships
Billy S. Murray, Sr. Scholarship
BACKGROUND: Billy S. Murray, Sr. was a professional farrier and a long time 4-H leader and supporter in the Southeast District. Billy led 4-H horse clubs in both New Hanover and Brunswick counties. He was also an active member of several horse organizations in Southeastern NC, including the Carolina Classic Horsemen’s Association, the Seagate Saddle Club, the Brunswick County and Columbus County Horsemen’s Association. He was always willing to lend a hand and help out other horse owners and youth in a time of need. His sudden death came in September of 2005, after announcing a Wayne County youth horse show in Goldsboro, of which he had supported each year. This scholarship was established to carry on Billy’s tradition of supporting youth through 4-H horse activities.
PURPOSE: To assist high school seniors and graduates who are continuing their education by pursuing a two or four year college degree, and have been active 4-H members and participants of the Southeast District 4-H Horse Program.
AWARD: A $500 scholarship to a high school senior or graduate enrolling at a senior or community college.

Communication Contest Scholarships
Those that are selected to represent the horse categories from District Activity Day and that go on and present at the State Compettion may be eligible for $50 to help pay for expenses. Please contact the SED4HHC Treasurer for more information.
Those that are selected at the state level to participate at Southern Regionals or other national events may be eligible for up to a one time $100 to help pay for expenses. Please contact the SED4HHC Treasurer for more information.
Other Event Scholorships
Horse Bowl, Hippology, Judging
Those selected to represent the state at national events may be eligible for a one time $100 to help pay for expenses. Please contact the SED4HHC Treasurer for more information
Other Events
For other horse oriented, 4-H sponsored events, there may, at the discretion of the SED 4H Horse Council, be other monies made available. Please contact the SED4HHC Treasurer, other District Officer or Agent Advisor for more information. Links may be found on the Contact Us under the About menu.
